Artificial intelligence (AI) or consultation with a sexologist-psychologist or sex therapist? A living person or algorithms? AI or a sexologist?

In today's world, where technology is developing extremely rapidly, artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually penetrating all spheres of life - from everyday life to medicine. And it is indeed a useful tool, including in the field of mental health, but can it replace psychotherapy?

On the one hand, AI expands access to psychological support, especially for those who previously did not dare to contact specialists. On the other hand, many questions arise regarding the ethics, effectiveness and depth of such intervention.

I decided to ask the GPT chat itself: "Can AI replace a human specialist, a sexologist or psychologist?".

But first, I want to briefly describe my opinion on this.

Psychotherapy is a living, deep, human interaction, which no machine can fully replace yet. I think that the therapeutic effect occurs not through information, advice and even dialogue, but through a special relationship between the therapist and the client. Thanks to the new experience experienced in contact with a specialist, awareness that arises not due to “stroking”, normalization and answers adapted to the “customer”, but due to the combination of the client’s readiness for change and the professional intuition, knowledge, feelings and sensations of the specialist.

Suppose a person has lost a family member. How can GPT chat help to survive grief?

When grieving, it is not advice that is important, but human presence, so that there is someone to be with and simply be silent. Yes, AI can imitate empathetic phrases, but it does not feel, and a person needs emotional presence to heal.

So, here is what the GPT chat itself answers:

🔍 What AI can do in the field of sexology and psychology:

✅ Information support

  • AI can provide accurate and fast information based on scientific data:
  • explain terms (like the glossary we just made),
  • help find general advice or tips for self-help,
  • answer frequently asked questions ("FAQ").

✅ Initial diagnostics / questionnaire

  • Algorithms can help:
  • take a survey,
  • assess the level of stress or anxiety,
  • find out whether it makes sense to contact a specialist (i.e. - a "gateway" to therapy, not a replacement for it).

✅ Psychoeducation and training

  • AI can help people understand themselves:
  • through educational materials, advice, exercises,
  • keeping a diary of emotions or sexual mood,
  • self-help reminders.

What AI can’t do:

🚫 Deeply empathize

  • A psychologist or sexologist creates a warm, safe atmosphere. No machine can truly feel a client’s pain, fear, or shame, as a person can.
  • People treat people through relationships.

🚫 Work with the unconscious, trauma, and emotions.

  • Therapeutic changes often occur not through logic, but through:
  • support in regression,
  • working with emotional trauma,
  • bodily reactions that require a very subtle approach.

These are areas of human experience that AI does not yet have access to.

🚫 Work with ethical dilemmas

  • A sexologist-psychologist does not just “give advice,” but works with context — morality, culture, boundaries, consent, sexual ethics. This requires:
  • critical thinking,
  • responsibility,
  • professional standards.

💬 And what will happen then?

AI will become a tool, not a replacement:

Scope

Role of AI

Role of the specialist

Information search

Quick, accurate reference

Context-based explanation

Problem identification

General analytics

Deep diagnostics

Libido / trauma work

Impossible

Personal support

Relationship building

No

Yes, through live interaction

🔚 Conclusion

AI is an intelligent tool, not a replacement for human presence. A sexologist or psychologist is not only a source of knowledge, but above all a guide to a world of safety, trust and change. This is what is irreplaceable.
