A sexologist is a specialist who professionally deals with issues of sexual health and helps people resolve intimate problems. People turn to a sexologist when they experience difficulties in sexual relationships, decreased libido, painful sensations during intimacy, erectile or ejaculation disorders, as well as emotional or psychological barriers that interfere with a fulfilling sexual life. The work of a sexologist is aimed at restoring harmony in the intimate sphere, improving relationship quality, and increasing sexual satisfaction.
A sexologist‑psychologist is a specialist who focuses on sexual disorders of psychogenic origin. Unlike a medical sexologist, who primarily works with the physiological aspects of sexual dysfunction, a sexologist‑psychologist studies the psychological, emotional, and behavioral factors that influence sexuality. They help clients address internal conflicts, fears, anxiety, negative experiences, self‑esteem issues, and other psychological causes of sexual difficulties.
A sex therapist (sex‑therapist, sexotherapist) is a specialist who, similar to a sexologist, works with sexual disorders and couple disharmony, but does so mainly through psychotherapeutic methods. A sex therapist helps with conditions such as erectile dysfunction, premature or delayed ejaculation, vaginismus, anorgasmia, decreased or increased libido, fear of intimacy, relationship difficulties, and other intimate problems. Their work combines psychotherapy, sexual education (sex‑education), and erotic training, which allows for a comprehensive approach to the problem and helps achieve lasting results.
As a sexologist, sex therapist, and sexologist‑psychologist, I use my own methods based on an integrative approach. This allows me to apply elements of effective psychological support techniques in practice, such as cognitive‑behavioral therapy (CBT), gestalt therapy, and client‑centered psychotherapy. The integrative approach makes it possible to flexibly combine different techniques, adapting them to the individual needs of each client. This format of work is particularly effective in the field of sexology, where psychological, emotional, and bodily aspects are closely interconnected.
